ABOUT THE B2B CAMP
What is
the B2B Camp?
B2B is a
pilot camp organised this summer by the Foundation for Eternal Excellence, a
voluntary organisation based in Nigeria its UK based partner, Women in Action.
The Camp will run from Monday 14th - Sunday 27th August 2006 for the purpose
of addressing the needs of children who are currently in foreign lands or who
have foreign dispositions. The purpose of the camp is to initiate a sense of
identification/belonging with an origin in the lives of these children hence
the title ' Back to Base.'
Why a
B2B Camp?
Research
has shown that children who face dual identities, ethnicities or nationalities
are faced with greater educational, sociological and psychological challenges.
There is however investigative evidence that cultivating intrinsic cultural
values in a child consistently will produce in him/her the fortitude with
which to not just succeed, but excel in challenging circumstances wherever
they may be located. Children are easier able to develop confidence and
self-esteem if they are identify with a place of origin.
How
will the camp achieve this?
By
bringing together Nigerian children in foreign lands or with foreign
dispositions to experience and learn about their culture and roots through
communal interaction and a wide variety of educational methods.
How
will the camp be run?
All campers
will be accommodated
in the newly refurbished
air-conditioned dormitories of the Redeemers High School on Redemption Camp,
Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Nigeria. They will be divided into four house groups
namely Daniel, Ruth, Esther & Joseph. For most programmes, children will be
divided into three age groups, 7-10, 11-14, 15-17.
There will be
daily activities such as teachings, praise/worship, specialized workshops,
tours, sports, film shows, creative arts, tours and much more. All activities
including meals will take place on the Camp grounds except for the tours.
(See Programme Schedule)
How
will the camp be managed?
The Camp
will be managed by a team of volunteers from both the UK and Nigeria. Please
see Camp Management Team. There will be volunteers in other departments
dealing with various functions of the camp such as welfare, medical, security,
administration, counselling etc. All volunteers have been prayerfully and
carefully selected (from UK—CRB checked) and specifically trained for their
camp duties.
How
secure is the camp?
The
Redemption Camp is one of the most secure places to be in Nigeria as a result
of the covenant of God’s safety upon the place. In addition to consistent
spiritual security, there will also be visible security team on venue for
added assurance.
What
will my child eat?
It is our
desire that your child will be happy with wide range of Nigerian meals
provided by the Redemption Camp’s leading chefs & caterers. There will however
also be a supplement of English foods. Health and special dietary requirements
will be taken into consideration.
What
will my child achieve at the end of the camp?
-
The
children at the end of the camp should have a greater sense of appreciation
of their origin, lineage and accompanying heritage.
-
They
would have a stronger sense of purpose in life having clearly understood the
concept of destiny and God’s plan for their lives.
-
They
would be better disposed to assessing the values of the western culture
which are rapidly declining in these last days. They will be better skilled
to deal with social issues such as relationships, peer pressure, inferiority
complex .
-
They
will also have learned how to maximize the opportunities presented by their
exposure to foreign cultures (at home or abroad) both for their personal
benefit and for the glory of God.
